Thabyay Education Foundation
The Student Work Advancement Program (SWAP) works specifically with current students from Myanmar (Burma), Cambodia and Laos (and recent graduates) at universities in Asia with the support of scholarships adminstered by Thabyay Education Foundation (TEF).SWAP supports students to access service learning in the form of community sevice, work placement and volunteering opportunities, through which they can:
- Connect their academic studies to practical challenges faced by communities in their home countries.
- Gain confidence in their ability to bring about positive changes in their community.
- Gain specific skills and experience relevant to their future ambitions to lead community development initatives in their home countries.
SWAP is a flexible program that both creates service learning opportunities for students, but also helps students to develop, initiate and implement their own placements and activities. The duration of placements varies between one and six months depending on the availability of the applicant and the preference of the host organization. Placements can take place in virtually any location in Asia, depending on the identification of a suitable host organization and access to sufficient funding. The learning content of placements varies considerably depending on the needs and preferences of applicants and host organizations. Below are some examples of SWAP placements.
